First thought I had was “man, americans really want to push their traditions into everything”. It felt forced and out of place.
But then I’d think, what if it hadn’t been the US? What if it had been another country trying to give their “touch” to the event.
People sometimes try to do exactly that when living abroad. They try to show off, in a good way, something they might even be proud of from their home country.
And I think, even though it didn’t really work, we should appreciate it for what it was.
Or maybe it was just a shameless tactic to try to appeal to more americans and make the WC feel more familiar to them.
I’d like to think it’s the former and not the latter.
